Palm Pilot m100
It was an episode of an old TV program that brought the Palm Pilot back into my mind. In the late 90s and early 2000s, it was my portable device of choice. Soon after they were drowned out by less functional (but more connected) mobile phones.
I was able to pick up the m100 on ebay with a keyboard for under £20 which was great. I had 3 Palms in the past but not this model. This is a low end device and runs on 2 AAA batteries. I bought it for fun but I am starting to think I could use this for real. Recently I switched my work PC to a desktop and a portable note taker / todo would be great to have. Also a very portable machine for writing projects would be great, a laptop is heavy and there is always the concern about power. Whereas the Palm runs for ages on a cheap replaceable and easily obtainable battery.
The device is 15/16 years old and has a black and white screen. The software is responsive and single tasking. Audio is limited to a few simple beeps. I have found some software still on-line on abandoned websites and I managed to get it to sync with my Linux laptop using JPilot.
Great device - may look for another! Watch out for more Palm posts on the blog.
